Robiquity Consultant Inspires Next Generation of Talent at Local High School

Robiquity Managing Consultant Joel Thompson recently visited Didsbury High School to speak with Sixth Form students about career opportunities in technology, consulting and the skills needed to succeed in today's workplace.

Joel's session formed part of the school's programme, where students spend 12 weeks hearing from professionals from across a wide range of industries and role types. Joel was the first guest speaker of the new academic year, giving students an insight into life as a consultant in the AI world and the opportunities available within the UK's growing technology sector.

During his presentation, Joel shared his personal career journey and provided a behind-the-scenes look at his role at Robiquity, where he works with organisations across both the public and private sectors to solve complex business challenges with AI, automation and low-code technologies.

Students heard first-hand about the variety of clients, industries and projects consultants can work across, ranging from improving public services (for example, Robiquity work with NHS Scotland) to helping businesses modernise operations and unlock growth. Joel also highlighted the collaborative nature of consulting and the diverse range of roles required to successfully deliver projects.

"One of the key messages I wanted students to take away is that there isn't just one route into technology," said Joel. "Successful project teams are made up of people with different strengths and skillsets, whether that's project management, business analysis, solution architecture, software development or support. Technology is a team sport."

Alongside discussing career opportunities, Joel spoke about the core skills that employers and clients alike increasingly value, including teamwork, analytical thinking, proactivity, communication and pragmatism.

Joel’s session reflects Robiquity's wider commitment to supporting skills development and social mobility across the UK, with a particular focus on Greater Manchester where Robiquity was founded and remains headquartered today. As demand for AI, automation, data and low-code technologies continues to grow, creating accessible pathways into careers in this space has never been more important.
